You can't go to France and not visit the Louvre. It's funny to say it's the most famous museum of the world. It is ranked first not only by popularity, but also by the number, value of exponents and the size of the exhibition area, which is about 60,000 square metres.
The Louvre is located in the Palace building, which rises on the right bank of the Senate in the first Paris district. The origins of this great architectural monument come back to the end of the XIIth century when Philip II August ordered the building of a fortress that protected the city from the Vikings.
Four centuries later, Francis I erected in her place a Renaissance Palace, which has gradually expanded over several centuries and developed the power of the bearers.
The palace ' s near state of today acquired in 1871 and remained unchanged for a long time. It was only in 1981 that the building had been extensively rebuilt. That was when a new and still controversial glass pyramid came in, the modern entrance to the museum. This is perhaps the only sight to be seen by the tour guides without a rush and fuss, in all the details, in the Louvre queue season, reaching incredible sizes.
The palace officially became a museum in 1793. On 10 August, it was solemnly opened for large masses: 537 paintings were presented. However, visitors came here earlier, still at Francis I, in a somewhat limited number.
Over the years of the museum, its funds have been steadily increased by numerous donations and gifts. To date, more than 380,000 exponents have been displayed in the Lover, the oldest of which are 6,000 years up to N.
It's impossible to get into a famous museum, so we need to figure out in advance that it's the first thing to look at. It's unreal to grab all the halls in one day.
